Premular (Ze 440) is recommended for the relief of premenstrual syndrome and menstrual symptoms. This includes menstrual pain, cramping and breast tenderness. Premular contains chasteberry (vitex agnus castus). Medicinal use of chasteberry has been documented as far back as 400BC by the ancient Greek herbalist Hippocrates.
The Premular extract Ze440 is the newest commercial extract of chasteberry available in the world and has been created using the most up to date knowledge on the action of the herb. Many of the symptoms of PMS are thought to be related to changes in the levels of the female hormone prolactin. The positive effect of Premular is thought to be that it reduces levels of prolactin in the blood.
Always read the label. Use only as directed. If symptoms persist patients should consult their healthcare professional.

How do I take Premular?
Premular is taken one tablet a day each day of the month.
How long should I take Premular for? The consumer info sheet only says a three months duration is recommended- are there concerns if I take them for a longer period?
It is safe to take Premular continuously for at least 12 months and probably longer. The reason for the statement in the consumer information leaflet is that if you have ongoing problems we suggest that you seek advice from a medical professional to ensure that there is not an underlying condition that requires other treatments. If and when you stop taking Premular, the beneficial effects have been noted to continue for a few months.
Can Premular shorten the length of a cycle in patients with already short cycles?
Based on thousands of patients treated with Premular, it does not shorten cycles. If this seems to happen it may be that it has not been used for long enough. At least 3 months treatment is required before it is possible to assess the effects of Premular.
